New ideas for tall towers| Sany Renewable Energy's first new lattice tower wind turbine was successfully connected to the grid

Recently, Sany Renewable Energy's first wind turbine in China using blade headroom adaptive prestressed concrete-filled steel tube lattice tower (referred to as "lattice tower") was officially connected to the grid, providing new ideas for the era of tall towers for large megawatt units.


01 "Follow the trend" under the trend of large-scale wind turbines

The new lattice tower is equipped with Sany Renewable Energy's SI-20056 wind turbine, with a single capacity of 5.6MW and an impeller diameter of 200 meters, which is used in a wind power project in Anhui. The total height of the tower is 147.1 meters, which is developed by Zhejiang Huadong New Energy Technology Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Power Construction East China Institute, and innovatively adopts prestressed steering technology to break through the concrete-filled steel tube lattice section above the blade tip, and realize the self-adaptation of the blade clearance of the supporting structure of large wind turbines, which is equivalent to a "fat reduction and muscle increase" for the traditional tower, and has the advantages of easy installation, high bearing capacity and easy transportation while reducing the risk of "sweeping the tower" of the blade.




As the core supporting structure of the wind turbine, the tower is equivalent to the foundation of the skyscraper, which is the key to ensuring the safety and stability of the unit. In recent years, under the trend of large-scale wind turbines, the blade length and hub height are increasing day by day, and the tower support structure needs to bear larger loads and adapt to more unit requirements (such as frequency limitation, blade tip clearance requirements, etc.). The limitations of the traditional tower structure such as "bloated", limited bearing capacity, and long construction period have gradually been revealed, and a new type of support structure is urgently needed to meet the needs of the industry.


As a "pacesetter" in the field of wind power, Sany Renewable Energy and related enterprises have joined hands to bravely enter the new track of the national "new high tower technology" and built the country's first blade headroom adaptive prestressed concrete-filled steel tube lattice tower, promoting the double leap in the safety and economy of the lattice wind power tower.


The lattice column at the bottom of the new tower is composed of high-strength steel pipe and concrete, and the stress state of the structure is optimized by prestressing technology, which improves the stability and bearing capacity of the tower while reducing the footprint of the base and the total cost. At the same time, the production of lattice towers does not require molds, and the design can be flexibly adjusted according to environmental conditions, which has a wide range of adaptability.


02 International authoritative certification provides reliability endorsement

In February 2025, the blade clearance adaptive prestressed concrete-filled steel tube lattice tower was evaluated by TUV Rheinland, an international authoritative certification body, and the first lattice tower type certification certificate in China was obtained, marking that the safety and reliability of the design and construction technology of the new tower product have been recognized by the industry and laid the foundation for large-scale market promotion and application.




Now, with the successful grid connection of the first unit using the new lattice tower, it has further provided strong support for the "landing and flowering" of the tower's technological innovation achievements. Based on the operation verification of the first prototype of the new lattice tower, the project team will simultaneously carry out the comparison of power generation and noise between the lattice tower and the hybrid tower, guide the future tower selection and micro site selection, and provide an objective empirical basis for the future development direction of the tower industry.
