Sany Renewable Energy's first offshore engine "big on small" project was officially launched

  • 2025.06.30

On June 21, the first project of batch commercialization of Sany Renewable Energy's offshore wind turbines - the dismantling of the old units of the Jieyang Huilai Shibeishan "Big and Small" Wind Power Project was officially launched. This is not only the beginning of the "renewal and upgrading" of the old wind farm, but also an important milestone in the application and practice of Sany Renewable Energy's offshore wind power products.

As one of the first batch of concession wind power projects in China, Shibeishan Wind Farm has an original installed capacity of 100.2MW, using 167 wind turbines with a single capacity of 0.6 MW, which was put into operation at full capacity in April 2007 and has been in operation for more than 18 years, witnessing the leap process of China's wind power industry from "following" to "leading". With the increase of the operating life of the units, the early wind turbines in the field are gradually facing the safety and economic challenges caused by the aging of the equipment. In order to fully release the potential of Shibeishan's high-quality wind energy resources, Jieyang Huilai Shibeishan Wind Power Project came into being.

Due to the particularity of the geographical location, the Shibeishan project is born with its own "offshore genes": high salt spray concentration, high air humidity, and frequent typhoons, which put forward three requirements for wind turbines: anti-typhoon, anti-corrosion, and anti-salt spray. After many discussions, investigations and verifications of the technical scheme, the project finally selected 14 Sany Renewable Energy offshore wind turbines with a single capacity of 13.6MW and 1 Sany Renewable Energy offshore wind turbine with a single capacity of 10MW, taking over the existing 167 old units, and increasing the total installed capacity to 200MW. The rated power of a single unit is increased by more than 10 times compared with the old unit, which not only meets the anti-typhoon standards of the maximum wind speed of 57 m/s (10-minute average) and the extreme instantaneous wind speed of 79.8 m/s once in 50 years, but also builds a solid safety barrier for long-term safe and stable operation through the intelligent operation and maintenance system.

Through the transformation and upgrading of "replacing small with large", the total capacity of the Shibeishan project has been doubled, the number of aircraft sites has been reduced from 167 to 15, about 50,000 square meters of land space has been released, and the utilization rate of land resources has been increased by more than 30%, providing a replicable "Shibeishan sample" for the development of new energy in the limited space in coastal areas.

"This expansion is not a simple capacity superposition, but through technological innovation and model upgrading, to create an upgraded model of coastal wind power development", the project leader said, in the future, Shibeishan Wind Farm will take "smart wind farm" as the direction, explore the application of new technologies such as intelligent inspection of wind turbine blades and intelligent optimization of power curves, and strive to become a double benchmark demonstration project of "green power supply + technology demonstration" in the China Southern Power Grid region.

From the first piling sound in 2004 to the dismantling of the first old wind turbine in 2025, the 20 years of changes in the Shibeishan Wind Farm are a vivid footnote to the vigorous development of China's wind power industry. In the future, after the dismantling of the old units is completed, with the orderly progress of the installation of the new large megawatt offshore machine, the "wind dancers" along the beach will surely help eastern Guangdong draw a more beautiful picture of the "double carbon" era with stronger "green power".
