In the past ten years, China has discovered 23 100-million-ton oil fields and 28 100-billion-square-meter atmospheric fields

On September 19, the Propaganda Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China held a series of press conferences on the theme of "China's Decade" to introduce the development and achievements of natural resources in the new era.

Yu Haifeng, director of the Department of Geological Exploration and Management of the Ministry of Natural Resources, said that in order to ensure the security of national energy resources, the Ministry of Natural Resources began to organize and implement the strategic action of prospecting breakthrough in accordance with the requirements of the State Council in 2011. In the past ten years, a number of strategic contiguous areas of important mineral resources have been formed, and the amount of major mineral resources has generally increased under the condition of continuous increase in mining consumption.

First, 23 100-million-ton oil fields and 28 100-billion-square-meter gas fields have been newly discovered in oil and natural gas, and 32 new resource bases have been formed for non-oil and gas minerals.

Second, the new proven geological reserves of petroleum in the western region account for more than half of the country, and the output accounts for about one-third of the country. The new proven geological reserves and production of natural gas in the western region account for more than 80% of the country's total. The oil and gas production in the sea accounts for about 1/4 of the country. In particular, in 2021, the crude oil production of Bohai Oilfield exceeded 30 million tons, and the new production increased significantly. In addition, we have established 32 new non-oil and gas mineral resource bases, 25 of which are in the western part of our country.

Third, the new resources of more than 80 old mines have reached large and medium-sized scales, and nearly 800 production mines have extended their service life to varying degrees.

Fourth, the degree of basic geological survey in China has been continuously improved, and the coverage rate of 1:50,000 regional geological survey has increased from 24.7% to 45.5%, and the survey of important prospecting areas has been fully covered.

Fifth, scientific research achievements such as "major breakthroughs in geological theory innovation and prospecting on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau" and the "trinity" prospecting prediction theory in solid mineral exploration areas have greatly supported domestic prospecting actions.

Sixth, the release of coal, iron and other 124 minerals "three rates" index requirements, the selection and promotion of 360 advanced and applicable technologies, processes and equipment, the average oil recovery rate increased by 9 percentage points, the solid mineral mining recovery rate increased by 8 percentage points on average, and the beneficiation recovery rate increased by 9.5 percentage points on average.

Seventh, we will promote the revision of the Mineral Resources Law, deepen the reform of the mining rights transfer system, and form a new standard for the classification of mineral resources reserves in China.

"In the next step, the Ministry of Natural Resources will work with relevant departments to organize and implement a new round of strategic actions for mineral prospecting breakthroughs, highlight the shortage of strategic resources, strengthen basic geological work, increase exploration, especially fine investigation, give full play to the role of various market players, and effectively enhance China's strategic mineral resources guarantee capacity."
