In response to the wind power subsidy survey, why did the European boss say this?

  • 2024.04.23

  • Wind power world

The EU has just clamored to investigate China's complete machine enterprises in the five EU countries and is clamoring to erect trade barriers, while German Chancellor Olaf Scholz visited China and gave a completely different statement.

"Germany is ready to strengthen communication and coordination with China to jointly address global challenges such as climate change, and is committed to upholding the multilateral international order and promoting world peace and development. Scholz said: "As an important member of the European Union, Germany is willing to play an active role in promoting the sound development of relations between the EU and China. ”

Scholz's voice may not be 100% representative of the EU's position, but as the world's third largest economy and the chancellor of the EU's largest country, Scholz's influence is unquestionable, at least to a certain extent, representing the opinion of the European leaders.

In recent years, China's manufacturing industry has developed rapidly in many fields, and many Chinese companies have cooperated with German companies, and many companies are competing with them. Especially in the automobile manufacturing industry, with the rise of China's new energy vehicle industry, Germany's relatively traditional automotive industry has indeed been affected to a certain extent.

The same is true for the wind power industry, Germany used to be the most developed country in the world in the design and manufacturing industry of wind turbines. In the field of wind turbine design, Aerodyn has helped Chinese companies a lot. In the field of complete machines, companies such as Siemens Gamesa, Ender, Enercon, and VENSYS, which is half of Chinese ancestry, are all heroes. However, with the rapid rise of China's OEMs, the global wind power manufacturing center is moving eastward. By 2023, 4 of the top 5 new installed machine manufacturers in the world will be Chinese enterprises.

As the ceiling of the global manufacturing industry, Germany's growth in Chinese manufacturing will of course be mixed. So why did Scholz make a different voice from the EU in the first place? In the author's opinion, there are no more than two reasons:

First, there is a demand for German manufacturing in the Chinese market. Scholz's visit to China to visit Bosch's joint venture with a Chinese enterprise fully shows that Germany still regards China as an important overseas market. It's just that this market beforeWhen it comes to all walks of life, it has shrunk somewhat. Germany's influence on the Chinese market is shifting from product exports to technology exports, from low-end to high-end. For example, it is already difficult for Germany to sell wind turbines to China, but it can carry out technical cooperation with Chinese companies.

Second, it is still difficult for China to seize the German market. The German manufacturing industry is relatively traditional, but that does not mean that it has not kept pace with the times, not to mention the quality and performance of the products it produces are obvious to all. Ask yourself, if we were to buy a car, electrical appliances or machinery with our eyes closed, which product would we choose? Therefore, Made in Germany is endorsed by a national brand. Taking wind power as an example, how many Chinese companies can sell their units to Germany? How many dare to challenge this market? We compete with German companies more in their overseas markets than in their home markets.

Therefore, at present, most of China and Germany are in a state of dislocation competition in the field of wind power, and there is even more cooperation than competition. Of course, we will need to continue to see if Germany's next move is really as friendly as Scholz has said. After all, many things are easier said than done.
