Blockbuster | A new 1 billion ton ultra-deep oil and gas area has been discovered in the Tarim Basin

As of June 4, the oil and gas exploration of the Fuman Oilfield in Tarim has been successful, and four exploration wells, including Manshen 2 and Manshen 3, have achieved high production of more than 100 tons per day, and a super rich oil and gas fault zone with reserves of more than 200 million tons has been implemented. So far, the Fuman Oilfield has implemented 34 fault zones from west to east, such as Manshen and Yueman, with resources of more than 1 billion tons, becoming the largest ultra-deep-sea facies fault-controlled fracture-vuggy carbonate reservoir discovered in China, making new contributions to ensuring national energy security.

In recent years, PetroChina Tarim Oilfield has thoroughly implemented the spirit of a series of important instructions and instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping on vigorously improving exploration and development, focused on promoting the implementation of the development plan for domestic exploration and production business, strengthened the new development concept, highlighted high-quality development, adhered to the integration of exploration and development, increased scientific and technological innovation and key technology research, and achieved major new achievements in oil and gas exploration in Fuman Oilfield.

Fuman Oilfield is located on the south bank of the Tarim River, in the hinterland of the Taklamakan Desert, between the two major oil and gas areas of Tazhong and Tabei in the Tarim Basin, with a buried depth of about 8,000 meters. The scientific researchers are determined to continue to deepen the scientific and technological research on the efficient exploration and development of ultra-deep carbonate reservoirs, overcome the technical bottleneck of ultra-deep fault-controlled fracture-vuggy carbonate reservoir prediction, innovate and form a series of supporting technologies for ultra-deep carbonate drilling and completion, and promote the realization of a major breakthrough in the exploration of 8,000-meter ultra-deep marine carbonate oil and gas in Tabei, and form a large scene of increasing reserves and production of the overall contiguous oil-bearing scale in Tabei-Tazhong. Up to now, Fuman Oilfield has discovered and implemented 400 million tons of petroleum geological reserves.

In January this year, Well Manshen 3 obtained a daily oil production of 1610.9 cubic meters and 525,000 cubic meters of gas in the Ordovician one-room test, setting a record for the highest daily production of a single carbonate well in the Tarim Basin. Innovate the idea of "fixed zone, fixed section, fixed well, and finalized" efficient well layout, strengthen the key technology research of speeding up and improving production and efficiency, so that the drilling success rate has increased from 75% to 95%, the proportion of high-efficiency wells has increased from 28% to 65%, and the daily oil production of a single well has increased from 35 tons to 74 tons, achieving the goal of "discovering in the current year, handing over reserves in the current year, and building and producing in the current year" in one fell swoop.

In the six years from discovery to development, the annual output of crude oil has increased from more than 30,000 tons to 1.52 million tons in 2020, and 55 high-yield wells with a daily output of more than 100 tons have been born, such as Manshen 1, which has efficiently discovered and built China's largest 7,600-meter deep and ultra-deep marine fault-controlled fracture-vuggy carbonate oilfield, which has effectively promoted and led China's oil and gas exploration to the continuous exploration of deep and ultra-deep complex fields.

The marine carbonate rocks in the Tarim Basin are rich in oil and gas reserves, accounting for about 38% of the total oil and gas resources in the basin, and are an important strategic successor area for increasing crude oil reserves and production in the Tarim Oilfield. By 2025, Fuman Oilfield will achieve an annual output of 4 million tons of oil and 1.4 billion cubic meters of natural gas.
