China's first 100 million cubic meters of coalbed methane horizontal well platform was drilled efficiently

A few days ago, the Bao 8-1 Ping 3 well located in Fugu County, Shaanxi Province was successfully drilled to 1711 meters, marking the first 100 million cubic meters of coalbed methane horizontal well integrated scale development project in China to complete the drilling task in a comprehensive and efficient manner, 34 days ahead of the plan, and the horizontal well coal seam drilling rate reached 98.2%.

It is understood that the Bao 8 coalbed methane development project is a coalbed methane rolling expansion project deployed by PetroChina Coalbed Methane Company (hereinafter referred to as "CBM Company") in the Baode block of the Eastern Hubei Gas Field. Exploration data show that the area has developed two sets of main coal seams, No. 4+5 and No. 8+9, with large coal seam thickness and high gas content, which are high-quality coalbed methane production resources. However, the resource was pressed under the city of Fugu County, Shaanxi Province, which brought great difficulties to the development and construction of production.



In order to effectively develop high-quality resources and achieve sustainable and high-quality development of coalbed methane, in 2020, the coalbed methane company repeatedly communicated with the Fugu County government and obtained a surface well deployment area of 0.99 square kilometers. On this basis, the geology and engineering technicians of CBM Company have compiled the first 100 million cubic meters of CBM platform development plan in China after 10 on-site surveys and 11 rounds of optimization and deployment. The scheme is developed in the form of four horizontal wells with long horizontal sections of large platforms to solve the problem of difficult development of urban overlying coalbed methane resources.

On April 22 this year, the horizontal well of the large platform of the Bao8 coalbed methane development project was officially drilled. In the process of drilling, in view of the geological engineering problems such as complex structure, large formation dip angle and large water vertical ratio, the coalbed methane company has set up a geological engineering integration technical team, on the one hand, it carefully constructs a horizontal well-oriented geological model, "distinguishes the markers before the target, and approaches layer by layer" to ensure a successful landing; "Walk the dessert after the target, carve the dessert profile, and position the two-line drill bit" to ensure the drilling rate of the coal seam. On the other hand, we have made great efforts to increase the efficiency of drilling, and have conducted in-depth research on the aspects of drill bit selection, mud performance optimization, drilling parameter matching, and drilling tool combination, and formulated a set of speed-up technical scheme of "fast hitting in the upper part and fast fixing in the lower part", so as to achieve the shortest well construction period of 14.6 days for horizontal wells, and promote the factory operation of horizontal wells, and the reuse rate of drilling fluid has reached 81%, which greatly reduces environmental risks and saves investment; In terms of production organization, the "one well and one policy" speed up work method is implemented in the ring to achieve interlocking and orderly.

At present, the coal seam drilling rate of 35 cluster wells in the Bao8 coalbed methane development project is 100%; The average length of the 20 horizontal wells is 976 meters, the drilling rate of the coal seam reaches 98.2%, and the drilling cycle is shortened by 10% on average compared with last year, laying a solid foundation for the efficient production in the later stage of the Bao8 well area.
