Sinopec obtained 100 billion cubic meters of gas field! Sichuan and Chongqing "Qi Daqing" spread good news again

The construction of "Qi Daqing" in Sichuan and Chongqing continued to accelerate. Recently, Sinopec has reported that the exploration and development of Zhongjiang gas field of Southwest Petroleum Bureau has made new discoveries, and the proven reserves of natural gas have increased by 34.029 billion cubic meters. Under the factors of ensuring energy security and promoting "carbon neutrality", China's natural gas industry has ushered in great development in recent years. Domestic oil and gas producers have stepped up their efforts in natural gas exploration and development, and natural gas production has continued to increase. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, in 2020, China's cumulative natural gas production reached 188.85 billion cubic meters, a cumulative increase of 9.8%, surpassing that of oil, and increasing production by more than 10 billion cubic meters for four consecutive years. The resource-rich Sichuan Basin accounts for nearly one-third of the country and is the main position for natural gas production.

According to the Ministry of Natural Resources, the total natural gas resources in the Sichuan Basin reach 38.84 trillion cubic meters, which is about equal to the total natural gas resources of the three major basins of Ordos, Tarim and Qaidam. The abundant resource reserves have attracted a number of enterprises in Sichuan. Enterprises in Sichuan, including the Southwest Petroleum Bureau, have ushered in new opportunities for large-scale development.

Continuous research on core technologies is the guarantee for large-scale development of natural gas. The Sichuan-Chongqing region is rich in ultra-deep natural gas and deep shale gas resources, with low detection rate, difficult development and construction, high risk, and difficult exploration and development. In recent years, Sinopec Southwest Petroleum Bureau has successively overcome the problems of oil and gas exploration and development in three major fields: narrow channel tight gas field, ultra-deep high sulfur gas field, and deep shale gas field. The newly discovered Zhongjiang gas field, with a depth of 2,000-3,000 meters and an area of 404.9 square kilometers, is a typical tight sandstone gas reservoir with the characteristics of low porosity, low permeability and strong concealment.

Through technical research, the Southwest Petroleum Bureau has formed a supporting key technology system to support the high-quality exploration of Zhongjiang Gas Field. At present, the cumulative gas production of Zhongjiang gas field has reached 5.29 billion cubic meters, and the gas production has exceeded 1 billion cubic meters for two consecutive years, which is equivalent to meeting the daily gas consumption of 5.5 million households every year. So far, the cumulative proven reserves of Zhongjiang Gas Field have reached 106.1 billion cubic meters, which is equivalent to a large oilfield with a yield of 100 million tons. In the Sichuan Basin, Sinopec Southwest Petroleum Bureau has developed more than 20 large and medium-sized oil and gas fields such as Yuanba, Weirong and Puguang, with a cumulative production of more than 80 billion cubic meters of natural gas and an annual natural gas production capacity of more than 8 billion cubic meters, benefiting 8 provinces and cities along the Yangtze River, thousands of enterprises and more than 200 million residents.

In July last year, Sichuan and Chongqing signed an agreement that the two sides will invest about 990 billion yuan to jointly promote 20 major energy projects, involving energy networks, energy supply, reserve peak regulation and other fields. Among them, 710 billion yuan will be invested in the development of natural gas in Sichuan and Chongqing, and the Sichuan Basin will be promoted to build a production capacity base of 100 billion cubic meters of natural gas (about 80 million tons of oil and gas equivalent). In the future, the two places will focus on the development of conventional natural gas such as the Longwangmiao Formation gas reservoir in Moxi in central Sichuan, the Sinian gas reservoir in the Gaoshiti-Moxi block in central Sichuan, and the high-sulfur gas field in northeast Sichuan, as well as shale gas in Fuling, Nanchuan, Changning-Weiyuan, and Yuxi.

In 2020, the total natural gas production of Sichuan and Chongqing was 54.7 billion cubic meters. By 2025, the company aims to produce 63 billion cubic meters of natural gas (shale gas). By 2035, China's first 100-billion-level natural gas production base will be built. This year, the National Energy Administration held a work promotion meeting to set the tone again, to continue to improve oil and gas exploration and development and investment, make every effort to break through a series of key technologies for oil and gas exploration and development, and strive to discover new large and medium-sized oil and gas fields. Sinopec said that it will fully invest in the construction of a national natural gas (shale gas) production capacity base of 100 billion cubic meters in Sichuan and Chongqing, and help Sichuan and Chongqing become a new power source that drives the high-quality development of the country.
