On the vast grassland of Xilin Gole, Inner Mongolia, a super project in the wind power industry is in full swing - Huaneng Shangdu million-kilowatt wind power base project. The project is located in Shangdu Town, Xilingol League, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, is one of our country's first large-scale new energy base projects, and is also the first "wind, solar and thermal storage" base-type comprehensive energy project of Huaneng Group, with a total installed capacity of 2 million kilowatts, which is jointly participated in the construction by a number of complete machine enterprises, of which 120 5MW wind turbines supplied by Sany Renewable Energy have all been hoisted first, and will complete the full capacity grid connection by the end of this month. This is the first base project of Sany Renewable Energy to use more than 100 units with a single capacity of 5 megawatts.



The 120 Sany Renewable Energy wind turbines installed in the project all use box transformer top-mounting technology, which has excellent performance in the project infrastructure, hoisting and actual operation stages, and is well recognized by customers.

Large megawatt - the optimal solution in the era of parity

In the era of parity, how to reduce the cost of electricity and ensure the return on investment of customers has become a common topic in the industry. Sany Renewable Energy Unit has the technical characteristics of "high, large, long, light and intelligent", providing customers with the "optimal solution" for wind farm construction in the era of parity.




The Sany Renewable Energy SI16050 wind turbine used in Shangdu Wind Power Base has a hub center height of 100 meters, which is suitable for local wind resource conditions and can effectively ensure power generation efficiency. At the same time, the unit uses an ultra-low load design, so that the total weight of the tower (including internal accessories) of a single unit is reduced to 219 tons (the conventional weight of the tower of the same height is about 230 tons), which can effectively reduce the hoisting and construction costs of the project.

In view of the site situation of severe snow in winter and large wind and sand in spring and autumn in Shangdu area, Sany Renewable Energy Unit adopts the box transformer upper technical route, which can not only avoid the adverse effects of snow and wind and sand on the box transformer, ensure the normal operation of the fan, but also save cables, reduce land occupation, and effectively reduce the cost of electricity. It was learned from the customer that compared with the box transformer lower solution, the project eliminated the excavation and pouring links of the box transformer foundation in the infrastructure and hoisting stage, and used the engine room and box transformer integrated hoisting scheme, which greatly reduced the project volume, and a single unit can complete the electrical installation in only 1-2 days (a single unit using the box transformer lower solution needs 3-4 days to complete the electrical installation). It is estimated that compared with the box transformer sub-installation plan, the construction cost of the project will save tens of millions of yuan and reduce the permanent land acquisition by 1,036 square meters. In addition, the use of the box transformer top solution also saves the construction and maintenance cycle and ensures customer benefits.




High stability - design advantages are the core

The first batch of wind turbines connected to the grid of Shangdu Wind Power Base are all Sany Renewable Energy SI16050 wind turbines, which have maintained high and stable operation since September 27, 2022, and learned from customers that among the first batch of units of the project to enter commercial 240-hour trial operation, the one-time pass rate of Sany Renewable Energy units is as high as 82.5%.




The stable operation of Sany Renewable Energy Unit benefits from the design advantages of its products. The SI16050 model adopts control strategies such as yaw precise wind control, pitch intelligent optimization control, optimized control damping and flexible braking of high-speed brakes, and the whole field control adopts advanced intelligent wind field control technology, according to the surrounding environment of the wind turbine and its own operating state, for the wind turbine torque, pitch, yaw and other parameters to make more accurate adaptive adjustments, reduce the load and yaw error of the unit, improve the power generation efficiency of the unit, and make the unit in the best operating state. As of early May 2023, the utilization rate of the first batch of grid-connected units reached 99.58%, with a total power generation of 296.02 million kWh.
