Global oil and gas exploration and development situation and oil company dynamics in 2022

The National Oil and Gas Strategy Research Center and the Research Institute of Petroleum Exploration and Development of PetroChina released the report "Global Oil and Gas Exploration and Development Situation and Oil Company Dynamics (2022)" in Beijing, which is the sixth time that the series of reports has been released to the public. The report summarizes the global oil and gas exploration situation, development situation, development trends and strategies of oil companies, dissects the discovery process of typical oil and gas fields, sorts out the cooperative development mode of the world's main oil and gas fields, predicts the future development trend of global oil and gas upstream business and new energy business, and provides reference for relevant departments and oil companies to study the international cooperation strategy of oil and gas.

Regarding the global oil and gas exploration situation in 2021, the report points out that global oil and gas exploration has shown a trend of "one stability, two declines, and three consecutive increases" in investment, workload, and new discoveries. The sea area is still the main battlefield for risk exploration by major oil companies, and the exploration success rate has surpassed that of onshore for the first time since the last round of high oil prices, and hot areas such as the two sides of the Atlantic, the Gulf of Mexico, the Black Sea and the South Caspian Sea, and the Arctic continue to lead the global oil and gas reserve discovery. It is expected that in the future, oil companies will pay more attention to exploration layout, investment willingness will continue to increase, and global oil and gas exploration will bottom out and rebound.

The National Oil and Gas Strategic Research Center is led by the National Energy Administration and unites the strategic research forces of domestic oil companies. Since its establishment in 2017, with the support of the National Energy Administration, the National Oil and Gas Strategic Research Center has focused on major energy development strategic issues, continuously tracked and judged the development trend of the national and global oil and gas industry, and provided intellectual support for national oil and gas strategic decision-making and high-quality development of oil and gas companies in three major areas: oil and gas strategy and energy security, the impact of focus and hot events on the oil and gas industry chain, and major issues in oil and gas upstream production and operation.
