Solid progress has been made in the construction of the global energy interconnection

On September 12, on the occasion of the 2023 Global Energy Interconnection Conference, the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (hereinafter referred to as the "Cooperation Organization") held a press conference in Beijing. Li Baosen, Deputy Secretary-General of the Cooperation Organization, attended the press conference to introduce the development achievements of the Global Energy Interconnection Initiative on the eighth anniversary and the relevant arrangements of the 2023 Global Energy Interconnection Conference. Li Baosen said that in the past eight years, China's initiative has become a global plan to promote the world's energy transition and sustainable development, the top-level design of the global energy interconnection has been basically formed, the circle of friends who jointly promote the development of the global energy interconnection has been growing, and the construction of the global energy interconnection has been steadily promoted.

On September 26, 2015, General Secretary Xi Jinping issued the China Initiative on "Exploring the Construction of Global Energy Interconnection and Promoting Clean and Green Ways to Meet Global Electricity Demand" at the United Nations Development Summit, which opened the prelude to the development of the global energy interconnection industry. This year marks the eighth anniversary of the "China Initiative" of Global Energy Interconnection, and the cooperation organization will jointly hold the 2023 Global Energy Interconnection Conference at the China World Hotel, Beijing, from September 25 to 27, together with the State Grid Corporation of China, the World Meteorological Organization, the China Electricity Council, and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, with the theme of "Global Energy Interconnection and New Energy System". This meeting is an important event to commemorate the eighth anniversary of China's initiative, and an important meeting to promote the implementation of global energy interconnection, which will build an important platform for all parties to discuss the green development of global energy and international cooperation.

Li Baosen said that in general, the international community has become more and more recognized by the concept of global energy interconnection, and more and more countries and enterprises have participated in the research and construction of global energy interconnection, and the global energy interconnection has gradually become an international consensus and common action from the "China initiative". In order to gather extensive forces and promote the implementation of the Global Energy Interconnection Initiative, the cooperation organization was formally established in March 2016, which is the first international organization in the energy field initiated by China. Since its establishment, the cooperation organization has always been committed to the purpose of "building a global energy interconnection and promoting a clean and green way to meet global electricity demand", aiming at the goal of building a first-class international organization with "one power, two forces and three types" (discourse, influence, action, platform, think tank and service), and actively exploring a development path that conforms to the development law of international organizations and its own reality, and has achieved leapfrog development.

Li Baosen introduced that this year's Global Energy Interconnection Conference has the following characteristics: First, the schedule is novel and rich. During the three-day conference, 1 academician forum, 1 plenary session, 12 parallel theme forums and 1 large-scale exhibition were set up, aiming to share development experience, promote technological innovation and build a cooperation platform through the model of "comprehensive + topical". Second, the lineup of guests is strong. About 600 representatives of government departments, United Nations agencies, important international organizations and enterprises, as well as internationally renowned experts and scholars were invited to attend the conference. According to preliminary statistics, about 200 guests from nearly 30 countries will attend the conference and deliver speeches. Third, the results are pragmatic and fruitful. During the conference, the latest research results of three cooperative organizations, namely the Global Energy Interconnection Report 2023, the Research on the Development of China's Clean Energy Base, and the Global Energy and Power Green Transformation Innovation Practice Case 2023, will be released to form the "Collected Papers on Key Integrated Energy Technologies in the New Power System". The cooperation organization will also sign a number of cooperation agreements with relevant national government departments and international organizations. Fourth, the international community has participated broadly. The plenary session and thematic forum were mainly co-organized by more than 30 international organizations, enterprises and universities from the fields of energy, power, climate, environment, finance, science and technology. Fifth, show the frontier of development. The conference set up a 2,000-square-meter exhibition area, comprehensively using physical exhibition boards, electronic sand tables, physical models and other exhibition methods, presenting cutting-edge technologies, high-end equipment, engineering projects and other situations of the global energy Internet from multiple perspectives, and fully demonstrating the development achievements of energy and power enterprises in promoting the green and low-carbon transformation of world energy and high-quality Belt and Road cooperation.

Since its establishment, the organization has successfully held five sessions of the Global Energy Interconnection Conference, held dozens of themed activities at global conferences such as the United Nations Climate Change Conference, the Biodiversity Conference, and the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, with tens of thousands of guests from more than 100 countries attending the conference, and the United Nations Secretary-General, political leaders from many countries, and heads of important international organizations delivering dozens of speeches.
