Sany excavators and nearly 100 excavators appeared, and the Yonghemen overpass in Nanchang City was demolished overnight

  • 2016.08.29

On the evening of August 26, at the Yonghemen overpass in Nanchang City, the knocking sound rumbled, and the smoke and dust were everywhere, and nearly 100 excavators, including Sany excavators, were working at the same time to begin to dismantle the overpass that had been in service for 24 years. According to the planning requirements of Nanchang rail transit, the shield tunnel section from Qingshan Junction Station to Fuzhou Road Station of Metro Line 2 must pass under the Yonghemen overpass, and the pile foundation of the overpass will have an impact on the shield, so the overpass needs to be dismantled and the pile pulled. The design of this enclosed interchange itself is flawed, and even without the existence of Metro Line 2, it is only a matter of time before it is dismantled.

The Yonghemen overpass is named because it is located at the junction of Dieshan Road and Bayi Avenue, which was originally the location of "Yonghemen", one of the seven city gates in Nanchang, and the existence of the overpass is also a way to commemorate the old city gate. Some elderly people are worried that after the overpass is demolished, it will be difficult for young people in the future to understand the history of Yonghemen. In addition to the concerns of the elderly, some citizens also seem to have different feelings about this overpass, the overpass began to be closed at 6 p.m. on the day of demolition, and some citizens went over to take photos one after another. A lady surnamed Liu, who has experienced the construction and opening of the overpass, rushed to the overpass as soon as she got off work, intending to take a photo with the bridge.

Looking down from above, the demolition site seems to be an "excavator show", in front of these iron guys, the overpass seems to have no power to parry, and it was demolished cleanly in one night. The disappearing overpass may be a little sad for those who used to pass below every day, but the construction of Metro Line 2 will bring new convenience to the city's transportation.
