AI helps heavy industry machinery "elephant dance"

When the industrial Internet meets heavy machinery, what kind of "chemical reaction" will it produce? In the Beijing pile driver factory of Sany Heavy Industry, which covers an area of about 40,000 square meters, changes are happening: here the machines are roaring, welding sparks are splashing, but there are few workers, and more than 10 processes such as loading and unloading, sorting, forming, welding, and spraying are completed by AI robots, increasing labor productivity by 85%, shortening the production cycle from 30 days to 7 days, and realizing the "elephant dancing" of heavy industry machinery.

However, "elephant dancing" is not easy.Piling machineryAs heavy equipment, for example, the longest of the more than 170 drill pipes is 27 meters and weighs 8 tons, and the heaviest of the more than 20 power heads is 16 tons. Dong Mingkai, president of Sany Intelligent Manufacturing Research Institute, introduced that in order to move a heavy and long workpiece, two automatic guided vehicles realized synchronous handling and automatic loading and unloading. With the help of visual sensing technology and AI algorithms, intelligent industrial robots are deeply applied in the fields of adaptive welding of large equipment and high-precision assembly. In the background, the "root cloud platform" collects nearly 36,000 data points in the factory day and night, and "calculates" the optimal parameters for each process, each model and even each tool. In September 2021, the factory was selected as a new "lighthouse factory" in the global manufacturing sector released by the World Economic Forum.

More and more smart chemical factories like Sany Heavy Industry have emerged, thanks to the vigorous development of China's 5G technology and digital economy in recent years. According to data recently released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, China has built 1.396 million 5G base stations, cultivated more than 150 large-scale industrial Internet platforms, and formed 20 typical application scenarios in the layout of "5G + Industrial Internet" in ten key industries. Up to now, the numerical control rate of key processes and the penetration rate of digital R&D and design tools in industrial enterprises above designated size have reached 55% and 74.4% respectively.

Sany Heavy Industry Pile Driver Factory is the world's largest piling machinery manufacturing base, and also one of the factories with the highest degree of intelligence, the highest per capita output value and the lowest unit energy consumption in the world's heavy industry industry.

On the one hand, through the 5G + industrial Internet, thousands of hydropower, oil and gas meters and manufacturing equipment in the factory are all connected for real-time monitoring and early warning, and the first digital kanban of energy topology map visualizes energy consumption, breaking through the two major difficulties of energy consumption accounting and management, and achieving annual water saving of 47,400 tons, a decrease of 58.9%, and a power saving of 386,300 kWh as of August 2021.

On the other hand, the "lighthouse factory" has carried out "careful calculation" on the energy efficiency of each production and manufacturing process, and combined with industrial mechanisms to optimize the energy conservation of related processes and equipment, as of 2021, it has reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 3,977.25 tons, and emissions have decreased by 30.5% year-on-year.

In the future, the experience of Sany Heavy Industry's "Lighthouse Factory" will also empower industrial chain partners, the industry, and even the entire "Intelligent Manufacturing in China".
