In the practice of oil and gas exploration and development in China, it is generally considered that the strata buried at a depth of more than 6,000 meters are considered to be deep, and the strata buried at a depth of more than 8,000 meters are considered to be ultra-deep. In recent years, the situation of oil and gas exploration and development in China has generally improved. At the same time, with the continuous improvement of the degree of oil and gas exploration and development in medium and shallow depths, it is becoming more and more difficult to discover oil and gas. Relying on the progress of geological theory and engineering technology, deep and ultra-deep have become an important successor position for oil and gas exploration and development.In June this year, the drilling depth of Well Shuangyu 001-H6 in Southwest Oil and Gas Field reached 9,010 meters, setting a record for the deepest onshore gas well in China. In July, China's largest ultra-deep condensate gas field was fully put into development in the Tarim Basin. In August, the "Shendi No. 1" Shunbei oil and gas field added ultra-deep "1,000-ton wells", drilling 41 oil and gas wells with a vertical depth of more than 8,000 meters...... Since the beginning of this year, China has made a series of achievements in deep and ultra-deep oil and gas exploration and development, providing important support for ensuring national energy security.
At present, China's deep and ultra-deep oil and gas resources reach 67.1 billion tons of oil equivalent, accounting for 34% of the country's total oil and gas resources. Taking the Tarim Basin as an example, the oil and gas resources buried at depths of 6,000 to 10,000 meters alone account for 83.2% and 63.9% of the total respectively, and the total ultra-deep oil and gas resources account for about 19% of the world's total. Although deep and ultra-deep oil and gas resources are abundant and have great development potential, exploration and development are extremely difficult due to factors such as large burial depth, high temperature, high pressure, and complex geological environment.
On the one hand, it is difficult to find oil. Looking for oil on the "underground Everest", which is buried at a depth of more than 8,000 meters, is like standing on the top of Mount Everest and seeing the cruise ship on the Brahmaputra River. In the process of exploration, the travel distance of seismic waves in the formation is usually more than 15,000 meters, and the energy will be greatly attenuated. To help find oil underground, technological breakthroughs are crucial. In Sinopec's Shunbei oil and gas field, researchers have innovated the formation of ultra-deep reservoir stereo imaging technology and fine carving technology for fracture and cave bodies, improving the fault identification accuracy from 30 meters to 15 meters, which is equivalent to doing "CT scanning" in the deep part of the earth. These technologies have been applied to the processing of 14,000 square kilometers of seismic data in Shunbei, which helps to better confirm the location of oil and gas resources.
On the other hand, mining is difficult. The ultra-deep geological environment is complex, there are many difficult-to-drill formations, and the drilling cycle is long, so it is necessary to break through key technical problems such as high-strength casing, drilling fluid, and completion tools. After years of exploration, China's oil and gas enterprises have mastered the ultra-deep oil and gas drilling technology, and have achieved a major leap from "not being able to fight" to "playing fast and accurately". In the Shunbei oil and gas field, the drilling cycle has been shortened from 350 days at the beginning of construction to 150 days, and the drilling accuracy has increased from 60% to 90%. In the Southwest Oil and Gas Field, integrated geosteering technology can finely control real-time drilling trajectories, and travel stably and efficiently through the reservoir at nearly 8,000 meters underground for more than 1 kilometer.
