The world's first "light tower factory" in the heavy industry industry

The World Economic Forum (WEF) recently released a new list of "light tower factories" in the global manufacturing industry, and Sany Heavy Industry Beijing Machinery Factory was successfully selected, becoming the first certified "light tower factory" in the global heavy industry industry. As a demonstrator of "Digital Manufacturing" and "Industry 4.0", "Lighttower Factory" has the reputation of "the world's most advanced factory" in the industry, representing the highest level of intelligent manufacturing and digitalization in the world today.

When this reporter walked into the heavy equipment manufacturing plant, he found that the busy workers on the assembly line in the traditional factory were nowhere to be seen, from the division of a steel plate to the assembly of more than 10 tons of masts, all of which had been automatically completed by the mechanics. Equipped with 5G high-definition sensors, AR and other core intelligent technologies such as industrial robots, mobile robots, mechanical arms and other different types of robots, just like the eyes, hands and brains, work together, and the "work" and "tiring work" such as material sorting are all undertaken by the robots.

Dai Qinghua, director and senior vice president of Sany Group, told reporters that after intelligent and digital transformation, an automatic equipment line is operated by more than 10 people before the transformation and operated by one worker after the transformation is completed, and the entire factory can produce 1,000 sets of equipment from 2,000 people a year to more than 400 people throughout the year, and the investment in transformation and upgrading can be recovered in three years. In 2020, the per capita output value of the plant has reached 10.728 million yuan (RMB, the same below), basically ranking first in the global industry.

Digitalization should be transformed in response to the downward cycle of the industry

The engineering machinery industry exhibits significant cyclical fluctuations, generally taking a five-year cycle. Dai Qinghua said, "We realize that the development of the engineering machinery industry is likely to have a new downward cycle, so we must find ways to deal with it." Smart manufacturing can help companies iron out cyclical fluctuations in terms of balancing plant employment, stabilizing plant efficiency, and ensuring product quality."

"In the past, engineering machinery companies had to recruit a large number of workers during the peak sales season, and had to lay off a large number of workers during the industry trough, which brought huge burdens to the enterprise, industry and society. After the realization of intelligent manufacturing transformation, the number of workers employed in the factory is stable and basically not affected by the cycle. Dai Qinghua also said that the mechanics have turned the experience of old craftsmen into digital technical indicators, which not only ensures the quality of products, but also doubles the efficiency.

In addition, in terms of internationalization, Dai Qinghua believes that now that overseas shipping costs are rising, internationalized distributed intelligent manufacturing can meet the company's overseas order needs. The intelligent transformation of the "lighthouse factory" is of far-reaching significance to the development of Sany Heavy Industry's international strategy. The semi-annual report shows that Sany Heavy Industry's international revenue in the first half of this year increased by 94.69% year-on-year to 12.444 billion yuan.

For the next step of intelligent transformation, it is reported that in addition to Beijing Machinery Factory, Sany Group has successively launched 46 intelligent manufacturing light tower factories and intelligent production line projects in Changsha, Kunshan, Chongqing and other industrial parks, realizing the real-time interconnection of nearly 10,000 production equipment and more than 100,000 kinds of materials, and the humanization and intelligence of various key production links have been greatly improved.
