Recently, the world's first 5G electric intelligent heavy truck jointly built by Sany and Pony.ai completed a 31-kilometer autonomous driving road test for the first time, which is particularly exciting.
There is no manual intervention throughout the process
The road test starts from the west gate of the Zhilian Heavy Truck Industrial Park, and the 5G electric intelligent heavy truck first goes to the Changsha Ring Expressway test section, and then returns to the factory along the main road test sectionbattery swap station, the whole journey is 31 kilometers, passing through a total of 8 intersections, and takes 55 minutes.
The test road section includes urban road conditions, highway road conditions, night road conditions, and 13 typical scenarios such as traffic lights, up and down ramps, entry and exit toll stations, and vehicle lane changes to ensure that the application environment of all elements is met.
The road test is completely completed by the autonomous driving of the "virtual driver" system jointly developed by Sany and Pony.ai, and the unmanned driving level reaches L4 level, realizing the avoidance of human intervention throughout the process.
Millimeter-wave radar, high-definition cameras, multiple sensors, satellite positioning system, this 40-ton heavy truck is "fully armed", relying on 5G and C-V2X technology, real-time data and instructions to adjust the steering wheel, throttle, etc. at any time.
On the highway, the truck moves smoothly at a speed of 80 yards, and the vehicle control is relaxed, smooth and without delay; On urban roads, when encountering pedestrians, other vehicles, etc., it will slow down and give way, and continue to move forward after confirming safety.
Wu Gong, the safety officer on the car, said that he didn't do anything after a trip, "just to make a cup of tea."
Chen Aijun, project manager of Sany Heavy Truck Intelligent Institute, is the project leader. As the vehicle successfully passed all scenario tests and drove back to the factory safely, he could not hide his excitement: "This road test has realized the organic combination of 'people, vehicles, roads, clouds' and other transportation elements, which is the first case of '5G + autonomous driving + electrification' application landing in the global industry."
It has passed the autonomous driving license test

As early as the beginning of this year, when Wu Guiying, member of the Standing Committee of the Hunan Provincial Party Committee and secretary of the Changsha Municipal Party Committee, led a team to investigate the Sany Zhilian Heavy Truck Industrial Park, this 5G intelligent electric heavy truck was unveiled as a welcome vehicle, guiding the observation group team to drive into the factory area, which attracted attention from all parties.
Chen Aijun introduced that the car was established in April last year, and as of this road test, it has completed more than 20,000 kilometers of autonomous driving tests, and has applied for a number of national invention patents such as adaptive cruise speed control.
Compared with traditional trucks, 5G heavy trucks using a large number of autonomous driving technologies have higher transportation efficiency, greatly reduced labor costs for vehicle use, and can also avoid traffic accidents caused by fatigue driving and overloading.
In terms of energy storage, the model is compatible with DC piles from almost all manufacturers, supports battery swapping and fast charging, and has a range of up to 200 kilometers, with obvious market advantages.

Chen Aijun said that at present, this car has passed the national autonomous driving license qualification test, and will start the commercial trial operation of autonomous driving in formation form in the future, creating the country's first smart logistics demonstration route from "Changsha to Ningxiang".
In addition, while steadily promoting the mass production of models, we will accelerate the research and development and application of cross-scenario L4 driverless technology, help increase the market share of "Sany heavy trucks", and lead the development of the intelligent networked vehicle industry in Hunan Province.
