Nyingchi, Tibet, July 19 (Xinhua) -- The groundbreaking ceremony of the lower reaches of the Brahmaputra River hydropower project was held in Nyingchi City, Tibet Autonomous Region on the morning of July 19. Li Qiang, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Premier of the State Council, attended the groundbreaking ceremony and announced the official start of the project.

At about 9 o'clock on the same day, the groundbreaking ceremony was held at the dam site of Milin Hydropower Station in Nyingchi City. The National Development and Reform Commission, the project owner China Yajiang Group, and the main responsible comrades of PowerChina and Tibet Autonomous Region spoke on behalf of PowerChina and Tibet Autonomous Region.
Li Qiang announced the start of the hydropower project in the lower reaches of the Brahmaputra River, and the construction of the project officially kicked off.

The lower reaches of the Brahmaputra River hydropower project are located in Nyingchi City, Tibet Autonomous Region. The project mainly adopts the development method of cutting and straightening and tunnel water diversion, and builds 5 cascade power stations with a total investment of about 1.2 trillion yuan. Engineering electricity is mainly for delivery and consumption, taking into account the local self-consumption needs of Tibet.
