Sany cooperated with Fan Shizhong to design a new concept excavator of "Zun Digger"

In the face of harsh construction operating environments, how should excavators ensure their own safety?

In the face of this clichéd excavator operation safety problem, Fan Shizhong, a graduate student from the School of Design of Hunan University, jointly designed a design work called "Respectful Excavator" with Sany Heavy Industry, a pioneering enterprise in China's construction machinery industry, and won the second prize of the 2016 Golden Hoop Stick Cup International Industrial Design Competition.

As the first Golden Hoop Stick Cup International Industrial Competition, the organizers hope that through this competition, we can actively promote the cooperation and docking between our country's industrial designers and related industries and enterprises, so that more designs can realize their true value.

The design work of "Honorable Excavator" was completed from February 2014 to June 2015, and before that, the work won the IDEA Award in the United States, the core77 Award in the United States and the Italian A Design Award.

In order to solve the safety hazards faced by traditional excavators in the actual operation process, Fan Shizhong has boldly innovated and transformed them. The cab of "Zun Digger" adopts modern new technology, with 3D simulation ground conditions, virtual reality, augmented reality, risk assessment, GPS navigation, full-view live broadcast, intelligent auxiliary operation and other functions, which can realize remote operation of equipment and greatly improve the safety performance and construction efficiency of machinery under construction state.

Referring to the design, Fan Shizhong introduced to the editor: "Because the operating room of the traditional excavator is fixed, it will cause a certain work blind spot, which is one of the important reasons for the safety hazards of excavator operations. The cab of the 'Honorable Digger' is a detachable design, and the position of the cab can be changed arbitrarily according to actual needs. Therefore, when safety problems arise during operation, excavator operators can disassemble the cab and place it in a safe place for unmanned remote control of the equipment."

In the "Respectful Excavator", we found that it broke people's traditional cognition of excavators and integrated into cranes,Pump truckand other mechanical elements, forming a comprehensive equipment with high efficiency, strong mobility, wide excavation range and excellent user experience. The "Honorable Excavator" increases the 2-section boom of the traditional excavator to 4 sections, and has the ability to fold and telescopic, which can increase the excavation range from the traditional 706 square meters to 1962.5 square meters. In the face of complex and diverse working conditions, excavator operators can choose the appropriate operation mode through the adjustment and control of the 4-section boom.

The tail of the "Honorable Digger" also has a unique design. It consists of 9 counterweights and has a net weight of 4500kg. When the operator drives the excavator for field work, the counterweight can be increased or decreased according to the actual situation. When the excavator is in a special operating environment (such as terrain height difference, potholes, etc.), the tail counterweight can be adjusted and extended, through which the fuselage can always be balanced, providing an effective guarantee for the operation efficiency of the "respected digger".

Through Fan Shizhong's explanation of the design concept of his design work "Respectful Excavator", it is not difficult to find that it is intended to break the existing traditional excavator design concept, combine modern technology and in-depth user experience, and design and create an excavator equipment that meets the operating needs of the current construction machinery industry. Because of this, Fan Shizhong's work "Respectful Digger" was highly unanimously recognized by the Organizing Committee of the Golden Hoop Stick Cup International Industrial Competition, and won the honor of second place in one fell swoop.

As the partner of Fan Shizhong's entry, Sany Heavy Industry, we also hope to have the opportunity to integrate the new design concept of "Zun Digger" into the design and manufacturing of Sany excavators in the future, so that the design value of "Zun Digger" can be truly used in practical use!
