Global Times: Liang Wengen's public expression of patriotism deserves applause

Liang Wengen, a private entrepreneur and chairman of Sany Heavy Industry, has attracted a lot of media attention as a representative of the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, and he has expressed his love for the motherland and the party when answering various questions. He said resolutely: "I gave birth 1,000 times, and I hope it will be in China; 1,000 deaths, it will be in China. At a time when patriotism is constantly being attacked by some activists on the Internet, Liang's remarks hit them at the muzzle.

Is Liang Wengen's words wrong? Absolutely. Similar words, similar feelings, we have heard and felt from countless people with lofty ideals in Chinese history. Serious public opinion polls have shown that patriotism is still the most common and resonant value in Chinese society today, and some of those who ridicule Liang Wengen on the Internet because of these words have an unhealthy mentality, or even a deformed mentality.

Liang Wengen's entrepreneurial experience is extremely difficult, and the influence of his achievements has crossed national borders, and he can be called one of the most beautiful and knowledgeable Chinese private entrepreneurs. A person's ability to grasp the world often has a lot to do with the twists and turns of the road he has traveled, the complexity of what he has done, and the breadth of the world he has seen. Liang Wengen's understanding of the party and the motherland is certainly deeper than that of young people on the Internet, but at least it deserves the latter's respect.

Speculating that Liang Wengen's praise of the party and the motherland was for the "benefit of the company", who can conclude that the person who said these words did not treat others as his own? There are indeed some people in this world who only have interests in their eyes, but the probability of this kind of person becoming the leader of a large enterprise like Sany Heavy Industry is usually zero.

Liang Wengen is obviously not a politician, does not know how to strike a balance between various public opinions, and must not offend any party. From the perspective of pursuing profits, balance is what he "should do" as a large private business owner*. Sany Heavy Industry has gone to the world, and its future can no longer be limited to China, maintaining a vague political attitude, which is the answer that abacus beads are easy to dial out.

At present, there are private entrepreneurs who adopt a social and political posture close to Western values, and it is probably not appropriate to say that they are just trying to please anyone, but we prefer to see their attitude towards public affairs as an expression of their true feelings.

It is worth noting why Guo Jingming posted a patriotic Weibo, and some people made a big crusade on the Internet. An accomplished person like Liang Wengen talking about loving the party and the country will also attract many disrespectful words on the Internet. Is there really something wrong with our world style, and why can the value orientation, which is obviously contrary to the mainstream public opinion, "occupy the mountain" in some Internet communities?

Clearly, there is a long list of problems that have led to this, including a deterioration in the government's image. But there is no doubt that at a time when society is confused and values are fiercely competing, more and more influential people need to dare to openly express the mainstream values they agree with, rather than succumbing to some popular ideas on the Internet and turning themselves into a "silent majority".

We believe that once there are more outspoken entrepreneurs like Liang Wengen, as well as more outspoken patriotic writers and literati like Guo Jingming, and when more celebrities join the ranks of openly promoting patriotism, the pattern of public opinion on the Internet will change, and "anti-patriotism" will be revealed to be the original form of ideology on the fringes of society.

The media interviews of the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China have reached the depth of the previous party congresses, and a large number of news has been conveyed to the society from the venue in an authentic way, which is very gratifying. China's democratic progress is accumulating meaningful details.
